Travertine Cleaning and Sealing for Pool Decks, Patios & Showers in Las Vegas

Outdoor and wet-area travertine takes the most abuse: pool water, hard water scale, sun, and soap film. We deep clean it with stone-safe products, then seal it so it stays clean longer. For indoor floors, see travertine floor cleaning and polishing.

About This Service

Travertine is a porous limestone with natural holes, pits, and voids. Those openings collect dirt, grease, mop water, and mineral deposits that a mop or a garden hose cannot reach. Over time the stone looks gray, blotchy, or dark in traffic lanes, and outdoor travertine picks up white hard water scale and efflorescence. Our travertine cleaning uses pH-neutral and stone-safe cleaners, brush agitation, and hot water extraction or controlled rinsing to pull soil out of the pores and grout. After the stone is clean and dry, we apply an impregnating sealer that soaks into the travertine and slows down how fast water, oil, and dirt get in. Cleaning and sealing is the right fit when the travertine is in good shape but dirty or unprotected. If the surface is etched, scratched, worn flat, or has open holes that need filling, that is full restoration, which we cover on our travertine restoration page.

Travertine Cleaning & Sealing

Signs Your Travertine Needs Professional Attention

Visual indicators that indicate it's time for restoration

  • Floor looks dirty right after you mop
  • Black or brown specks in the travertine holes
  • Water soaks in and darkens the stone instead of beading
  • White crusty haze on pool decks or pavers
  • Cloudy film on shower walls that will not wipe off
  • Grout darker in some areas than others

Why Travertine Gets Dirty Fast in Las Vegas

Las Vegas conditions create unique challenges for natural stone

  • Las Vegas tap water is very hard, so minerals dry on the stone and build up in showers and on pool decks
  • Desert dust and sand blow in and settle into the holes and pores of travertine
  • Pool water and pool chemicals splash onto decks and leave calcium and salt deposits as they evaporate
  • Strong sun and heat break down sealers on outdoor travertine faster than in mild climates
  • Monsoon storms push water and debris across patios, and minerals in the stone can rise to the surface as efflorescence

Our restoration process is specifically designed for Las Vegas conditions, using products and techniques that address these local factors.

Travertine floors, showers, and pool decks need different cleaning

Indoor travertine floors mostly collect tracked-in dust and mop residue in the holes and grout, so we focus on agitation and extraction. Travertine showers collect soap film, body oils, and hard water, which need stone-safe cleaners that will not etch the walls. Outdoor travertine pool decks and pavers deal with sun, pool chemicals, calcium scale, and efflorescence, so we clean them differently and use a breathable sealer that lets moisture escape. If your pool deck needs more than cleaning, see our pool deck restoration service.

What travertine sealing does and does not do

An impregnating sealer soaks into the stone and slows down how fast water, oil, and dirt are absorbed. It gives you more time to wipe up a spill before it stains. It does not stop etching from acids like lemon juice, wine, or vinegar, because etching is a chemical reaction with the stone itself. It also does not make the surface scratch-proof. Sealing over dirty stone locks the dirt in, which is why we clean first. We test absorption before and after so you know the sealer took.

Cleaning indoor travertine floors? Floor cleaning, polishing, and hole filling are covered on our travertine floor cleaning and polishing page.

Why Choose Our Travertine Cleaning & Sealing

  • Soil pulled out of holes, pits, and grout lines
  • Stone-safe cleaners that will not etch travertine
  • Hard water scale and efflorescence removed outdoors
  • Impregnating sealer matched to indoor or outdoor use
  • Floors, showers, pool decks, and pavers
  • Honest advice on whether you need cleaning or full restoration
  • Backed by our one-year warranty

Our Process

  1. Close-up of outdoor travertine showing its natural holes and pits

    Inspect and Test

We check the finish, the holes, the grout, and any existing sealer. A water drop test shows how absorbent the stone is right now.

  2. Spray bottle of cleaner on a dirty travertine pool deck before scrubbing

    Pre-Treat

Stone-safe cleaners go down first to loosen soil, grease, soap film, or mineral buildup. Outdoor stone gets treated for scale and efflorescence.

  3. Scrubbing a travertine pool deck and coping with a floor machine

    Agitate and Extract

We scrub the surface and grout with brushes and machines, then remove the dirty water with extraction or a controlled rinse so soil does not settle back into the pores.

  4. Clean, dry travertine pool deck checked before sealing

    Dry and Check

The stone has to be dry before sealing. We look for stains or damage that cleaning did not fix and tell you what they are.

  5. Applying sealer to a cleaned travertine pool deck

    Seal

We apply an impregnating sealer suited to the location, work it in, and remove the excess so it does not leave a film on the surface.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer travertine cleaning near me in Las Vegas?

Yes. We clean and seal travertine in Las Vegas, Henderson, Summerlin, North Las Vegas, and the surrounding areas. Call (702) 605-6528 or send photos for an assessment.

What is the difference between travertine cleaning and travertine restoration?

Cleaning removes dirt, soap film, and mineral buildup, then we seal. Restoration goes further: honing out etch marks and scratches, filling open holes, and polishing the finish. If cleaning will not fix what you see, we will tell you before we start.

How often should travertine be sealed?

It depends on the stone, the sealer, and where it is. With regular use, sealer lasts about six months to a year. Showers and outdoor pool decks usually land on the shorter end because of water, sun, and chemicals. A simple water drop test shows when the stone is absorbing again.

Can you remove the white haze from my travertine pool deck?

In most cases, yes. White haze outdoors is usually calcium scale from pool water or efflorescence from minerals in the stone. We remove it with stone-safe products and then seal with a breathable impregnating sealer.

Will sealing make my travertine shiny or wet-looking?

A standard impregnating sealer does not change the look much. If you want a richer, darker color, a color-enhancing sealer is an option. We show you a test area first.

What should I use to clean travertine between visits?

Use a pH-neutral stone cleaner and a clean microfiber mop. Avoid vinegar, bleach, and acidic tile or grout cleaners, which etch travertine. Outdoors, rinse off pool splash and sweep sand often.

How much does travertine cleaning and sealing cost?

Our minimum visit is $700, and most jobs come in around $1,200. The exact price depends on the square footage and the condition of the stone. Estimates are always free.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. All of our work is backed by a one-year warranty.
