Types of Damage

Damage Types We Repair

Each type of structural damage needs a different approach. Here is how we handle the most common ones.

Marble countertop edge chip before repair

Chips

The most common repair we do. Edges, corners, and surface impacts from dropped objects or normal wear. We fill with color-matched epoxy, cure it, and blend the surface so the repair fades into the stone.

Separations

Seams pulling apart or gaps forming where two pieces of stone meet. Common in kitchen islands, L-shaped countertops, and bar tops. We clean the joint, rebond with structural epoxy, and reinforce so it holds.

Splits

A full break or major crack through the stone. These need clamping, structural epoxy, and sometimes rebuilding the damaged section. We stabilize the stone and blend the repair line as much as possible.

Hairline Cracks

The hardest damage type to repair. The crack is too narrow to get bonding material into effectively. We clean it out and fill with a UV-cure compound to add structural stability. If a deeper fix is needed, we can dremel the crack wider to fill and seal it properly, but that's more invasive and the color match is harder to guarantee. We usually recommend the lighter approach.

Honest Assessment

What's Realistic

Once stone is cracked or chipped, it doesn't go back to factory. Our goal is to blend the repair so it stops being the first thing you notice and to add structural stability so the damage doesn't spread. That's the honest answer, and for most homeowners, it's exactly what they need.

We'll always tell you what to expect before we start. If a repair isn't worth doing, we'll say so. Send us photos and we'll give you a straight answer.

Common Questions

Countertop Repair FAQ

Can you make a crack completely disappear?

We can make it blend significantly, but we won't promise invisible. Once stone is damaged, the repair is always there at some level. What we can do is make it stop being the thing your eye goes to, and stop it from getting worse.

How long does a chip repair take?

Most single chip repairs take about an hour including curing time. Multiple chips or complex edge work can take 2-3 hours. You'll know the timeline before we start.

Will the repair match my stone color exactly?

We color-match as closely as possible using tinted epoxies. Natural stone has variation, which actually helps repairs blend in. Engineered quartz can be trickier because the patterns are more uniform, but we use resin-based compounds designed for manufactured surfaces.

Should I repair or replace my countertop?

Repair makes sense for chips, cracks, and separations when the rest of the stone is in good shape. Replacement makes sense when there's widespread structural failure or you just want a different material. We'll tell you honestly which one applies to your situation.

Don't let a chip or crack turn into a replacement.
