Looking for a TuffSkin Alternative in Las Vegas?

TuffSkin protects stone with a thin clear film. We protect it with a liquid etch-resistant coating that bonds into the surface. Both guard against etching; they get there differently. Here's an honest comparison from a local restoration company.

Short version

A film on top vs. a coating bonded in

TuffSkin is a clear protective film applied over marble and other stone by trained installers. It is a real barrier: acid hits the film, not the stone. The trade-off is that it is a separate layer, with edges at sinks and counter edges, and seams where one sheet meets the next.

Our coating is liquid-applied and bonds chemically into the surface, so there is no sheet to lift and nothing to seam. It is breathable and highly etch-resistant rather than a full barrier, which means you still wipe up spills. And because we restore stone for a living, existing etching and scratches come out before we protect.

Restore first

Protection locks in what's underneath

Any protective layer preserves the surface as it is, etch marks included. We are a marble restoration company first, so we hone and polish out existing damage, then coat. One team, one visit, and the stone under the protection actually looks right.

Everyday use

What changes day to day

With a film, you are living on the film. With our coating, you are living on the stone: same texture, same veining, honed or polished. The difference is a rule of thumb. Wipe acidic spills when you see them instead of leaving them overnight.

Straight answer

Which should you choose?

Choose a film

You want a complete acid barrier and are fine with a visible layer that gets replaced when damaged.

Choose our coating

You want stone that looks and feels like stone, no seams, and a local team that restores it first.

Common questions

Questions we get

Is TuffSkin a bad product?

No. It does what it says: it puts a clear film between your stone and spills. We offer a different approach for homeowners who would rather have no film, no seams, and a finish that feels like stone.

Are you a TuffSkin installer?

No. Expert Stone Repair is an independent Las Vegas stone restoration company and is not affiliated with TuffSkin. We apply our own etch-resistant coating.

Can I switch from a film to your coating?

In most cases. The film comes off, we clean off any adhesive residue, restore the stone underneath, and coat it. We confirm on-site after seeing the surface.

Will a large island have seams?

Not with our coating. It is applied as a liquid, so a big island gets one continuous finish.
