About This Service

Granite countertop repair is structural work, not just shine. The usual damage we see is a crack running from the front of an undermount sink, a chipped corner or edge from a pot or bar stool, pits where mineral grains have fallen out, and seams that have separated or turned dark. Each one is fixed with color-matched resin: polyester or epoxy for cracks and missing stone, UV-cure acrylic for small chips. Cracks are cleaned, filled, and clamped so the stone pulls back together. Missing edges are built up and shaped to the original profile. Then we level and polish the repair so it matches the shine of the rest of the counter. Most repairs are finished in a single visit.

Types of Damage

Damage Types We Repair

These are the five kinds of damage we see most on granite counters, and how each one is repaired. If your counter is quartz rather than granite, the resin-based material needs a different process, which we cover on our quartz countertop repair page.

Corner chip broken off a granite countertop, with the broken piece held beside the edge

Chips

The most common repair we do. Edges, corners, and surface impacts from dropped objects or normal wear. We fill with color-matched epoxy, cure it, and blend the surface so the repair fades into the stone.

  • Edge and corner chip filling
  • Color-matched epoxy bonding
  • Surface blending and polishing
  • Sealing the repaired area

Cracks

A crack you can see and feel, most often running from the front of an undermount sink or near a cooktop cutout. We clean it out, fill it with hand-tinted resin, and clamp it so the stone pulls back together, then polish the line to blend.

  • Steam and solvent cleaning
  • Hand-tinted resin fill
  • Clamping so the stone closes
  • Diamond polishing to blend
Crack running along the narrow granite strip in front of an undermount sink

Apron Cracks

The apron is the narrow strip of granite in front of an undermount sink. It is the thinnest, weakest part of the counter, so it is where cracks show up most. Leaning on the edge, heat from the sink, and water getting into the stone all put stress on it. We clean the crack, fill it with color-matched resin, and stabilize the strip so it stops flexing and the line stays closed.

  • Cleaning out water and residue
  • Color-matched resin fill
  • Stabilizing the strip so it stops flexing
  • Polishing the edge to blend
Granite countertop edge split through to the substrate at an inside corner

Splits

A full break or major crack through the stone. These need clamping, structural epoxy, and sometimes rebuilding the damaged section. We stabilize the stone and blend the repair line as much as possible.

  • Structural clamping and bonding
  • Epoxy filling and reinforcement
  • Edge and surface rebuilding
  • Diamond polishing to blend
Thin hairline crack running across a light granite countertop to the front edge

Hairline Cracks

The hardest damage type to repair. The crack is too narrow to get bonding material into effectively. We clean it out and fill with a UV-cure compound to add structural stability. If a deeper fix is needed, we can dremel the crack wider to fill and seal it properly, but that's more invasive and the color match is harder to guarantee. We usually recommend the lighter approach.

  • Cleaning and UV compound filling (recommended)
  • Dremel widening for deeper repair (when needed)
  • Structural stabilization
  • Honest expectation-setting before we start

Signs Your Granite Needs Professional Attention

Visual indicators that indicate it's time for restoration

  • A line across the stone you can feel
  • A crack that gets wider over time
  • Missing pieces at the sink or edge
  • Seam filler that is cracked or dark
  • A rough spot that catches your cloth
  • An old repair that no longer matches

Why Granite Cracks in Las Vegas Kitchens

Las Vegas conditions create unique challenges for natural stone

  • The narrow strip in front of an undermount sink is the thinnest, most stressed part of the slab
  • Las Vegas summer heat and daily temperature swings make stone expand and contract
  • Hot pans set near cutouts add localized thermal stress
  • Settling homes and shifting cabinets leave slabs unevenly supported
  • Bar stools and heavy pots hit overhang edges and corners

Our restoration process is specifically designed for Las Vegas conditions, using products and techniques that address these local factors.

Case study: rebuilding an 18-inch crack in Craig Ranch

A North Las Vegas homeowner near Craig Ranch had a granite counter cracked along the entire front of the undermount sink, with pieces of stone missing. They had been told to replace the counter. We taped the pieces into position, cleaned the crack, rebuilt the missing sections with resin hand-tinted to match a gold, black, pink, and grey granite, reshaped the bullnose edge, and polished the repair to blend. The counter stayed in place and the sink was never disconnected.

When granite can't be repaired

We recommend replacement when a slab has several cracks running across the whole field, when large sections are loose and the cabinet frame underneath has failed, or when you want a completely different look. In those cases a repair would not last, and we will tell you so before any work starts.

Counter is cracked and also dull or stained? Most repairs are done together with granite polishing and resealing in the same visit.

Why Choose Our Granite Countertop Repair

  • Cracks clamped and filled, not just covered
  • Hand-tinted resin matched to your granite
  • Edges rebuilt to the original profile
  • Seams leveled, refilled, and color-matched
  • Repair polished to match surrounding shine
  • No tear-out, plumbing, or backsplash work
  • Backed by our one-year warranty

Our Process

  1. Cracked granite countertop edge taped in place during assessment

    Assess the Damage

We check whether a crack is cosmetic or structural, look for missing stone, and check the cabinet support under the slab.

  2. Steam cleaning a granite countertop crack before repair

    Clean and Prep

The crack or chip is cleaned out with steam and solvent so resin bonds to clean stone, then the area is masked off.

  3. Technician color-matching pigments and resin for a granite repair

    Color-Match and Fill

We tint resin by hand to match the stone's base color and flecks. Cracks get filled and clamped. Missing pieces get built up in layers.

  4. Shaping a granite countertop edge repair back to its original profile

    Shape and Level

Once cured, the repair is cut flush and the edge is shaped back to the original bullnose, bevel, or eased profile.

  5. Diamond polishing a granite countertop after crack repair

    Polish to Blend

Diamond pads polish the repair and surrounding area so the finish is even, then we seal the work area.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you repair a cracked granite countertop?

Yes, in most cases. If the slab is still supported, we clean, fill, and clamp the crack with color-matched resin and polish it to blend. We will tell you up front if the cabinet support needs work first.

Will I be able to see the repair?

On solid or speckled granite, most repairs are very hard to find. On busy multi-color granite with large veins you may see it if you know where to look. We hand-tint the resin in several tones to get as close as possible.

How much does granite countertop repair cost compared to replacing it?

A repair is usually a small fraction of replacement. On a Craig Ranch job with an 18-inch crack and missing stone, the homeowner had been quoted $4,000 to $8,000 to replace the counter. Text us photos for a quote on your repair.

Can chips in granite edges be fixed?

Yes. Small chips are filled with UV-cure acrylic and polished flush in under an hour. Larger broken edges are built up with tinted resin and shaped to match the original profile.

Can a separated granite seam be repaired?

Yes. We remove the old seam filler, level the two slabs if one is raised, refill with color-matched resin, and polish the joint.

How long does a granite repair take?

Chips usually take under an hour. Cracks and seams take a few hours including cure time. Most counters are usable the same day.

How much does granite countertop repair cost?

Our minimum visit is $700, and most jobs come in around $1,200. The exact price depends on how many repairs there are and how big they are. Text us a photo or call, and we will give you a free estimate.

How much does it cost to fix one chip in granite?

Our minimum visit is $700, and most jobs come in around $1,200. One chip on its own costs less than that, so we use the rest of the visit on every other chip, crack, or dull spot, a protectant and sealer on the counters, and often the bathroom counters too.

Do you reset or re-attach undermount sinks?

No. We are stone specialists, so a sink reset needs a plumber or countertop installer. We do repair the granite around the sink, including cracks in the narrow strip in front of it.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. All of our work is backed by a one-year warranty.
