About This Service

Granite is hard, dense, and does not etch from lemon juice or wine the way marble does. That is why most granite problems are not about softness. They are about stress cracks near sinks and cooktops, chipped edges, failed seams, mineral haze from Las Vegas hard water, and sealers that wore off years ago. Each of those needs a different fix. Cracks and chips need color-matched structural repair. Haze and dullness need diamond polishing. Dark water rings and oil spots need stain extraction and resealing. Granite restoration is the full process: we diagnose what is actually wrong, repair it, bring the finish back, and protect it. On one dark granite kitchen we measured the gloss at 82 GU before polishing and 115 GU after.

Types of Damage

Damage Types We Repair

These are the five kinds of damage we see most on granite counters, and how each one is repaired. Structural repair always comes first, then we refinish the surface and reseal it.

Corner chip broken off a granite countertop, with the broken piece held beside the edge

Chips

Chipped edges and corners from pots, bar stools, and normal wear. We fill the chip with color-matched epoxy, cure it, and shape it to the existing edge profile, then blend it in when we refinish the surface.

  • Edge and corner chip filling
  • Color-matched epoxy bonding
  • Shaping to the existing profile
  • Blending during refinishing

Cracks

Stress cracks most often start at a sink or cooktop cutout. We clean the crack, fill it with hand-tinted resin, and clamp it so the stone pulls back together. The line is then polished down with the rest of the counter so it blends.

  • Steam and solvent cleaning
  • Hand-tinted resin fill
  • Clamping so the stone closes
  • Polished with the surface
Crack through the narrow granite strip in front of an undermount sink

Apron Cracks

The apron is the narrow strip of granite in front of an undermount sink. It is the thinnest part of the counter, and big daily temperature swings stress it. We clean out water and residue, fill the crack with color-matched resin, and stabilize the strip so it stops flexing.

  • Cleaning out water and residue
  • Color-matched resin fill
  • Stabilizing the strip so it stops flexing
  • Polishing the edge to blend

Splits

A full break through the stone, often on outdoor granite that takes sun, irrigation overspray, and heat year-round. These need clamping, structural epoxy, and sometimes rebuilding the damaged section. We stabilize the stone and blend the repair line as much as possible.

  • Structural clamping and bonding
  • Epoxy filling and reinforcement
  • Edge and surface rebuilding
  • Diamond polishing to blend

Hairline Cracks

The hardest damage type to repair. The cracks are too narrow to get bonding material into effectively. We clean them out and fill with a UV-cure compound to add structural stability. Widening a crack for a deeper fill is possible, but it is more invasive and the color match is harder, so we usually recommend the lighter approach.

  • Cleaning and UV compound filling (recommended)
  • Dremel widening for deeper repair (when needed)
  • Structural stabilization
  • Honest expectation-setting before we start

Signs Your Granite Needs Professional Attention

Visual indicators that indicate it's time for restoration

  • A crack you can catch with a fingernail
  • Missing pieces along the sink or edge
  • Granite looks dull even right after cleaning
  • Water darkens the stone instead of beading
  • White crust around the faucet base
  • A seam that has opened or turned dark

Why Granite Breaks Down in Las Vegas

Las Vegas conditions create unique challenges for natural stone

  • Hard water leaves mineral film around sinks and faucets that cleaning sprays cannot dissolve
  • Big daily temperature swings and summer heat stress the thin stone in front of undermount sinks
  • Outdoor granite takes UV, pool splash, irrigation overspray, and grill grease year-round
  • Many builder-grade slabs were sealed once at install and never again
  • Desert dust is abrasive and slowly dulls high-traffic work areas

Our restoration process is specifically designed for Las Vegas conditions, using products and techniques that address these local factors.

Restore or replace your granite?

Replace granite when the slab has multiple through-cracks across the field, is pulling away from failed cabinets, or you want a different color. Restore it in almost every other case. Cracks near sinks, chipped edges, open seams, haze, and stains are all repairable in place. Restoration keeps your backsplash, plumbing, and cabinets untouched and is usually done in a day.

Granite types we restore in Las Vegas homes

Valley homes built in the 2000s often have common builder granites like Santa Cecilia, Uba Tuba, Baltic Brown, or Giallo Ornamental. Custom homes and high-rise condos lean toward black granites and premium exotic slabs. Our job photos include dark, tan, green, and multi-colored granite. Dark granites show haze and water rings the most. Busy, multi-colored granites are the hardest to color-match for crack repair, which is where hand-tinted resin work matters.

Not sure your counter is granite? Quartz, quartzite, and marble each need a different process. See all stones we work on below, or text us a photo.

Why Choose Our Granite Restoration

  • One visit can cover repair, refinishing, and sealing
  • Color-matched crack, chip, and seam repair
  • Diamond polishing measured with a gloss meter
  • Stain extraction for oil and water marks
  • Impregnating sealer matched to your slab
  • Usually a fraction of replacement cost
  • Backed by our one-year warranty

Our Process

  1. Technician inspecting a granite countertop under a work light

    Diagnose the Slab

We check for cracks, chips, seam failure, haze, stains, and sealer condition. A water test shows whether the granite is still sealed.

  2. Granite countertop crack clamped and filled with resin

    Structural Repair First

Cracks are cleaned, filled, and clamped with color-matched resin. Chips and edges are rebuilt and shaped to the existing profile.

  3. Diamond polishing a dark granite countertop

    Refinish the Surface

Diamond abrasives and polishing compounds remove haze, fine scratches, and dull paths, then blend repairs into the surrounding finish.

  4. Stain Treatment

Oil and water stains get poultice treatments to draw them out of the stone before final polishing.

  5. Seal and Verify

We apply an impregnating sealer, confirm water beads again, and check the finish with a gloss meter.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between granite restoration and granite polishing?

Polishing brings back shine on granite that is dull but undamaged. Restoration is the full job: repairing cracks, chips, and seams, removing stains, refinishing the surface, and resealing. If your granite only looks flat, polishing is enough. If it is damaged, start with restoration.

Can a cracked granite countertop be repaired instead of replaced?

Usually, yes. We fill and clamp cracks with color-matched resin, rebuild missing pieces, and polish the area to blend. On a Craig Ranch job we rebuilt an 18-inch crack with missing stone along an undermount sink. Replacement had been quoted at $4,000 to $8,000.

Does granite etch like marble?

Most granite does not etch from everyday acids like lemon juice or wine. Dull spots on granite are usually hard water film, cleaner residue, or worn resin on the slab surface. Those respond to cleaning and polishing rather than etch removal.

How often should granite be resealed in Las Vegas?

It depends on the slab. Dense dark granites may barely absorb sealer, while lighter, more porous granites need it every six months to a year with regular use. If water darkens the stone within a few minutes, it is time.

How long does granite restoration take?

Most kitchens take a few hours to one day. Crack repairs need resin cure time, which we plan into the visit. You can usually use the counters the same day.

How much does granite restoration cost?

Our minimum visit is $700, and most jobs come in around $1,200. The exact price depends on the size of the job and how much repair the granite needs. Estimates are always free.

Is your work guaranteed?

Yes. All of our work is backed by a one-year warranty.
